Third Party Controls- Cross Border Data Clearance
What happens when you enter a search into Google? You apply for a credit card? You scroll through Facebook and click on funny cat pictures?
What happens when you do all of this in a different country?
During my internship I was able to glimpse aspects of this from the point of view of a company who manages over 1,79 trillion dollars in assets. A company who has a presence in over 100 countries and employs almost a quarter of a million people at sites across the globe.
Citi or more commonly known as Citibank has a long and rich history. A company who has been around for over 200 years and has over seen innovations of every type.
I was lucky enough to join them this summer. I was lucky enough to join a globally diverse team which had members in far and remote locations such as Ireland, Kenya and Delaware.
A team whose function is to scour the globe and identify regulations and data compliance requirements in all the countries Citi operates. From Albania to Zimbabwe each country has its own ideas of protection in regards to their citizens.
During this internship I learned a piece of what it takes to remain globally compliant. I developed my knowledge base, and my professional network. I was able to help my team in a real and meaningful way and collaborate in projects on different teams.
